Publications and research talks

  • Brendan Bena published an article entitled Introducing Aspects of Creativity in Automatic Poetry Generation (preprint) in the Proceedings of the 16th International Conference on Natural Language Processing and gave a talk at ICON-2019, the premier international NLP conference, this year held in Hyderabad, India.
  • In 2019, Carter Sifferman, et. al., published Depth Sensor-Based In-Home Daily Activity Recognition and Assessment System for Stroke Rehabilitation in the Proceedings of the IEEE International Conference on Bioinformatics and Biomedicine. In November 2019, Carter gave a talk with that title at the conference, in San Diego.
  • Carter also delivered a talk entitled Using Machine Learning to Assess Stroke Patient Recovery at the MAKO (Missouri, Arkansas, Kansas, Oklahoma) Undergraduate Research Conference at Missouri State University, on November 9th, 2019.
  • Simmons gave the invited talk at the MAKO conference, titled A Primer on Deep Learning for Mathematicians, in November 2019.

  • Sacha Mourier

    • email: sacha_mourier@berkeley.edu

    • Sacha, who with Simmons started the DL@DU Project during Winter Break 2016/17, was a math major at DU who went on to earn a Masters in Statistics from UC, Berkeley. He is currently (Spring '20) a consultant working for Trivadis working mostly on Data Science and Operations Research projects.

      Sacha came to DU from France on a tennis scholarship. He lives in Lausanne, Switzerland. He has returned to Springfield several times since graduating and has visited with students about grad school. Feel free to contact Sacha with your questions about applying and attending a top grad program, and career opportunities upon graduation.

  • Cory Harris

    • Cory is a Data Analyst at Environmental Works in Springfield, Missouri.
  • Dan Maynor

    • Dan currently works in Data Science at Cerner in Kansas City. He is pursuing a Masters in Data Science from Mizzou.
  • Cooper Redfern

    • Coop is a Software Developer at Maxar Technologies in Westminster, CO.
  • Carter Sifferman

    • Carter is in the doctoral program at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
  • Grant Bushman

    • Grant is a doctoral candidate at Montana State University.
